Access and condition guide
Dead Deer Behind a Fence, Down a Slope or Decomposing?
Can we remove a deer that is hard to reach? We assess fenced yards, slopes, limited vehicle access and decomposing deer before scheduling. Photos and a description help us confirm whether removal is possible and what it will cost.
The location of a carcass matters just as much as the property address. A deer near a driveway may be straightforward to reach, while one behind a fence or down a slope requires more planning. This guide helps you provide the details needed for a useful quote.
Dead deer behind fences and gates
If the deer is in a fenced yard, show us the gate and the route from the parking area to the carcass. Mention narrow passages, steps or obstacles. Knowing there is a fence is useful; seeing the available access makes the situation much clearer.
- Is there a gate along the access route?
- Is it locked, and who can provide access?
- Are there steps or a narrow passage beyond the gate?
- Where can a vehicle park relative to the yard?
You do not need to alter your fence or move the deer before contacting us. We first assess the available route and discuss the pickup plan.
Deer removal from slopes or uneven ground
For a carcass down a slope, take a wider photo that shows the terrain as well as the deer, if you can do so from a suitable location. Describe whether the route is steep, uneven or obstructed. Also tell us how far it is from the parking area.
We cannot promise that every slope is accessible. The condition of the ground and the available route help determine whether a pickup can be arranged. See the pricing guide for how difficult access affects the quote.
Can a decomposing deer be removed?
We assess decomposing deer for removal. Let us know the current condition when requesting a quote, since decomposition can change the handling required and the price. A photo taken from a distance can help us assess the situation.
If you do not know how long the deer has been there, say so. Describe what you can see rather than trying to assign a precise age to the carcass. The location and condition together help us determine the next step.
Photos that help us assess the job
- The carcass location: show where the deer is on the property.
- The access route: include the gate, path, slope or other obstacle.
- The parking approach: show how close a vehicle can get.
You can send a written description if photos are unavailable. Include your town, address, callback number and who will authorize access. Our local pickup guide covers the request process.
What happens after we review the details?
We discuss access, confirm whether the job can be arranged, provide a quote and check availability. Fawn removal starts at $150 and adult deer removal starts at $250 for straightforward jobs within our core service area; difficult access and carcass condition can increase the total.
After pickup, the carcass is transported to the landfill for disposal. We serve private properties in Kalispell, Whitefish, Columbia Falls, Bigfork and surrounding Flathead Valley towns. For a deer on a public road or public land, contact the agency responsible for that location.
